Tactical Response Team
The Tactical Response Team is a fully equipped team of officers with specialized training in response and execution of high risk arrests, unusual occurrences, and dangerous calls or situations.
The department has patrol officers assigned to ride motorcycles for traffic enforcement and general patrol. These motorcycles are also very useful during the many parades which are held in Gatlinburg.
The department has one K-9 handler. Our canine Pedro, is a Dutch Shepard, and is trained in narcotics detection, tracking, and apprehension.
The department has had a bike patrol for twenty years in the downtown area. The officers utilize specially equipped mountain bikes and work during high volume times to effectively patrol, enforce laws, and make contact with the public. The bike patrol officers also assist with community relations.
County Wide Bomb Squad
The department participates in the Sevier County Bomb Squad. One officer from the patrol division is assigned and has received training in explosive devices. The squad can be called to respond anywhere within the county and has a remote controlled robot, portable x-ray equipment, and other equipment which can be used for the safe and secure removal of any suspicious devices.
School Resource Officers
The Sevier County School System and Police Department have an agreement which provides one uniform Police Officer from the patrol division at our elementary school (Pi Beta Phi) and one uniform Police Officer at our high school (Gatlinburg-Pittman). These officers not only provide for the security of the students and staff, they also foster a positive relationship between the children and police. School Resource Officers deliver the D.A.R.E. program at the elementary level as well as assisting in presentations at all grade levels with presentations regarding safety. S.R.O.'s also provide security at athletic events and school functions as well as investigating criminal activity on and around the campus.
Meth Response Team
The department has officers who are specially trained to respond to scenes where there is possible methamphetamine production and assist with identification, safe removal and quarantine.
