Includes new website, mobile app, and text message alerts
GATLINBURG, Tenn.—The City of Gatlinburg’s Mass Transit Department has launched an upgraded real-time information system, which includes the ability to track the location of each Trolley in the system, via a new website, mobile app, and text messages.
Citizens and visitors who use the Gatlinburg Trolley System will be able to utilize these tools to assist their navigation when riding on Trolleys. Individuals using the website and mobile app can plan their trips on the Trolley to view the current locations of all Trolleys in service, determine the estimated time of arrival for Trolleys at their location, and view the location of Trolley stops on each route.
A new feature on the system includes the Trip Planner, which allows riders to determine the best and quickest routes between locations. Riders on the Gatlinburg Trolley System will also notice an additional feature as audible announcements will be made when passengers are nearing the next stop on the route.
This upgraded service also includes information for the City of Pigeon Forge’s Mass Transit system, allowing riders of both systems to coordinate their trips to and from each City. The Pigeon Forge Mass Transit system makes a stop at the Gatlinburg Welcome Center.
“The launch of this real-time transit information system is an effort to provide enhancements for Gatlinburg Trolley passengers and provide them information to make their use of the system much more efficient,” Gatlinburg Mass Transit Manager Nick White said.
The developer of this real-time transit information system is Connexionz, which specializes in delivering intelligent transportation systems and services to transit agencies.
Residents and visitors alike can download the free mobile app by searching “Gatlinburg Trolleys” in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. The real-time information and trip planning capabilities are also accessible on the web at http://Gatlinburg.com/Trolley, along with more information about the Trolley system including routes, maps and hours of operation.
Information on the Trolley system, including links to the real-time information system is also available on the Visit Gatlinburg mobile app, which is available for Apple iOS and Android devices.
