Herbert Holt Park

GATLINBURG, Tenn.— Gatlinburg’s Herbert Holt Park reopened to the public on Thursday, December 21. The improvements project included major renovations for the Park, which is a popular fishing spot among citizens and visitors. The Park is also home to the City’s Trout Rearing Facility and Greenhouse.

“The City is very excited to reopen Herbert Holt Park, which is one of the first amenities visitors see when they enter Gatlinburg,” Gatlinburg City Manager Cindy Cameron Ogle said. “Recreation Director Laurence Evans, along with the staff of both the Recreation and Street Departments, have dedicated themselves to work diligently to ensure that the Park has been able to reopen.”

As part of the Herbert Holt Park Improvements Project the playground equipment was replaced, fencing and landscaping was replaced around the playground area, and parking and traffic flow improvements were made. Renovations were also made at the pavilion and restroom areas in the Park.

Additionally, major improvements were made in the Park along the West Prong of the Little Pigeon River. The riverbank has been stabilized and improved access to the river has been provided. Two new sets of steps leading to the river were installed and the existing ADA ramp leading to the William C. Stevens handicap fishing pier was renovated.

“The Improvements Project at Herbert Holt Park has given this facility a much needed upgrade and has improved facilities at one of the City’s most popular parks,” Gatlinburg Recreation Director Laurence Evans said. “We apologize for this temporary Park closure, but know that this work will give a much needed upgrade to the facility which serves as a major landmark at the north entrance to Gatlinburg.”

These improvements at Herbert Holt Park were authorized by the Gatlinburg City Commission earlier this year and funded as part of the City’s 2022-23 Fiscal Budget. Whaley Construction was the contractor for the renovations.
