Trout Fishing

GATLINBURG, Tenn.—The Gatlinburg Recreation Department will be hosting a pair of Spring tournaments in early April.

On Monday, April 1, the opening day of catch and keep season in Gatlinburg-managed waters, the Recreation Department will host a Children’s Trout Fishing Tournament. The event is free of charge for children ages 15 and under. The Tournament will be based out of the newly renovated Herbert Holt Park. Children ages 12 and under will be allowed to fish in the kids area at Herbert Holt Park, while children ages 13-15 will be required to compete in general fishing waters.

The tournament will be based on a two-fish limit. Preregistration begins on March 4 and runs through 3 p.m. on Friday, March 29. In-person registration will be available the morning of the Tournament at Herbert Holt Park.

For the third consecutive year, the Recreation Department will host a unique fishing tournament on Saturday, April 6. In place of the entry fee, all participants will be required to turn in at least a small grocery bag with litter, which is to be collected from the riverbank during the event, at the weigh-in to be eligible for the fishing prizes. The event is open to adults and children of all ages and will be based out of Herbert Holt Park. Prizes will be awarded for the largest fish, most litter collected, and the most unique litter item collected.
