Jeff Ownby retirement

GATLINBURG, Tenn.—The City of Gatlinburg is announcing a transition in its Planning Director position.

 

Jeff Ownby has served as the City Planning Director twice and has retired effective May 31. Ownby served the City from September of 1986 through November 1996 and again from May 2022 through May 2024.

 

In addition to being an employee of the City, Ownby also served one term on the City Commission from 1997 through 2001. He was also the Mayor from June of 1999 through 2000.

 

“On behalf of the City, I want to extend our gratitude to Jeff for his service and dedication over the years,” Gatlinburg City Manager Greg Patterson said. “Jeff has been instrumental in helping guide the City’s growth and development throughout his career and the City wishes Jeff all the best in his retirement.”

 

The City has selected Gary Carver to be its next Planning Director. Carver has a 15-year public service career and he spent the past 10 years as the Community Development Director for the City of Newport. Carver holds a Master of Public Administration Degree from East Tennessee State University. Gary Carver

 

Carver officially joined the City organization on May 6 and has been involved in the transition process.

 

“Gary brings a wealth of experience in City planning which will be invaluable as we continue to look for future growth and development in Gatlinburg,” Patterson said. “The City is excited to welcome Gary to the team and is confident that his leadership will contribute significantly to the future of Gatlinburg, making it an even better place to live, work, and visit.”
