GATLINBURG, Tenn.—The Gatlinburg Police Department and Gatlinburg Community Police Programs (G.C.O.P.P.) are planning for its annual Kids Camp, which will be held July 22 through July 26 and is open to children ages 9 through 13. Kids Camp runs from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day at the American Legion Building, located behind Gatlinburg City Hall.
The annual Kids Camp is an action-packed week that includes firearms and bicycle safety, alcohol and drug awareness, presentations by the Gatlinburg Police Department’s Tactical Response Team and K-9 Officer, tracking classes, conflict resolution classes, physical fitness obstacle course, team building exercises, swimming and wateslides. Campers will be fed lunch and snacks each day. Gatlinburg Police Department officers will serve as camp staffers for the week.
“The Gatlinburg Police Department is proud to hold its annual Kids Camp program this year as another avenue to educate our community’s children on the workings of the Police Department and that law enforcement is a resource they can count on to protect and serve them throughout their lives,” Gatlinburg Police Chief Ronnie Barrett said.
Applications for the Kids Camp are available until July 15. A limited number of spaces for campers are available and will be accepted into the camp on a first-come, first-serve basis. Applications, permission slip and camp schedules may be picked up at the Gatlinburg Police Department, located at 1230 East Parkway. Water clothes or any type of clothing that will not be damaged by getting wet, including swim gear, t-shirts and shorts, will be required for each camper.
