GATLINBURG, Tenn.—The City of Gatlinburg and Sevier County Government have jointly proclaimed Monday, September 2 as Boston Smith Day, a day to honor an individual whose spirit, strength, and determination have come to embody the very essence of the community.
In a ceremony at First Baptist Church of Gatlinburg on Sunday, August 25, City and County leaders came together to issue a joint proclamation recognizing Smith’s journey of rehabilitation and recovery following a June 17, 2018 automobile accident. The accident left Smith with severe injuries, yet his resilience and unwavering spirit have inspired countless individuals across Gatlinburg and Sevier County.
The proclamation highlights that Smith exemplifies traits that define the people of Gatlinburg and Sevier County – hard work, relentless effort, unyielding endurance and what we proudly call ‘Mountain Toughness.’ Throughout every step of his recovery, Smith demonstrated these qualities, becoming a symbol of hope and perseverance.
“On this Labor Day, we wanted to recognize one individual who embodies hard work, perseverance, dedication, resilience, relentless pursuit of a goal, and a strong Christian witness more than anyone elese in Gatlinburg and Sevier County,” the joint proclamation reads.
Throughout his recovery, Smith has shown a remarkable capacity for strength and endurance, constantly pushing his limits and inspiring others to do the same. His faith and determination have not only guided him, but also helped guide his family and the community, demonstrating the impact one person’s journey can have on the lives of many.
The City of Gatlinburg and Sevier County request that all citizens join in recognizing and celebrating Boston’s incredible efforts and spirit on Monday, September 2 and come together to honor an individual who represents the best of what the community stands for – strength, faith, and unwavering resolve in the face of a difficult journey.
