GATLINBURG, Tenn.—The Gatlinburg Police Department is announcing 19-year veteran Justin Brown as Assistant Chief of the Gatlinburg Police Department, effective immediately.
With over 19 years of law enforcement service with the Gatlinburg Police Department, Brown’s career reflects his commitment to serving both the Department and the City’s citizens, visitors, and businesses. Since joining the Department in 2005, he has held several critical positions, including overseeing department property and physical evidence, managing police equipment, and having 13 years of experience as a Patrol Officer and Lieutenant.
“Justin Brown has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication throughout his career with the Gatlinburg Police Department,” said Gatlinburg Police Chief Ronnie Barrett. “His experience, knowledge, and commitment to Gatlinburg will serve him well in his role as Assistant Chief. I have no doubt that he will continue to uphold the high standards of the Department while leading us into the future.”
In his most recent role as the Department’s Training Officer, which he has held since July 2023, Brown has been responsible for overseeing all training for officers within the department, writing lesson plans and instructing classes for all Department employees, ensuring that POST requirements are met, and assisting with the preparation of the Department's budget.
Brown is a 2001 graduate of Gatlinburg-Pittman High School and he holds an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Brown is also deeply involved in the Gatlinburg community, serving as President of the Gatlinburg Community Oriented Police Programs (GCOPP), a member of First Baptist Church Gatlinburg and was a former youth league football coach.
Brown replaces Assistant Chief Gary Waldroup, who retired on September 16, following a 46-year career with the Department.
