Animal Resistant Container Zone

GATLINBURG, Tenn.— The Gatlinburg City Commission approved Ordinance No. 2623 on second reading during its November meeting, expanding the City's animal-resistant container zone.

Originally established in 2000, the animal-resistant container zone was created to reduce the availability of garbage as a food source for bears, promoting safety for both residents and wildlife. The zone was also expanded in September 2023, and this new ordinance further extends its boundaries.

The approved expansion requires all properties on Hemlock Street, Medlin Drive, Hill Street, Laurel Avenue, Wild Ivy Way, and Red Bud Lane to use animal-resistant containers. Additionally, the expanded zone now includes properties along Parkway and River Road which were not previously included in the zone, as well as any properties holding a Tourist Residency Permit issued by the City of Gatlinburg.

All properties included in this Zone will be required to come into compliance by June 30, 2025.
